Common Questions and Answers

These are commonly asked eyelash  extension questions.  We encourage you to ask our lash specialists any questions or concerns you may have.  We ulimately care about not damaging your natural lashes and we may encourage you to try a different type of lash extension if we feel your real lash could be compromised.

Why can lash extensions detach?

Natural lashes have a growth cycle generally 45 to 60 days and it is common to lose 3-5 lashes a day. When properly applied your lash extensions should last the entire growth cycle.  However, there are a few reasons lashes will detach if not coming off with in the process of this cycle. The reasons lashes may shed too soon can be coming into contact with water too soon after having them done (should wait generally 24 hours before contact with water or steam.) Products used on lashes can compromise the  bond and loosen the glue. We recommend using our special products designed  for lash extensions to clean your lashes or if you choose to still wear mascara (which isn't recommended due to chance of loosening the glue) the mascara we carry is designed for your lash extensions and so is our eyeliner.  These products should be washed off every night and not to be slept in or again can compromise the bond with the lash to the extension lash.  Rubbing your eyes, which is especially easy to do during allergy season or habitual lash pulling can also cause you to loose lashes.  We also sell sealants that help preserve the lashes bond and can extend your time between fills as well as keeping them healthy and shiny.

What are eyelash extensions?

Ready to ditch the mascara and get the look of having mascara on at all times and not having to put the daily effort in! The lashes are extremely light weight, are semi-permanent, and there's many types to choose from. The lashes are shaped like a single eyelash but come in different lenghts and curls depending on your own lash and the look you desire the expert lashist will help you pick your size and type of curl as well with deciding if you would like to go with the popular silk lashes or if you would like to try cruelty free real mink or fox hair or if you would prefer volume lashes.  It is very critical that each lash extension is carefully attatch to one single lash with the tiniest amount of glue and is not too close to the eyelid nor too far up on the lash as well. This helps with the lashes growth cycle

How long does it take to get lashes put on?

Lash extensions are not to be rushed. It can take 1.5  to 2 hours to get a full set of silk, mink or fox applied. Each lash is carefully applied to each of your own lashes one at time with the tiniest amount of glue. You can choose how often you want to get a fill, we have some people that choose to get a weekly touch up that only takes about 15-20 mins or every other week that takes about 45 mins or 3 weeks and that will take 1.5 hours and some people choose to get monthly fill which takes about 1.5 to two hours.  We have a choice in lashes that requires less fills and that is the volume lashes.  If you choose to do volume lashes you will have more than one lash applied to a single lash. It is done by fanning the lashes and using even lighter weight lashes. The normal weight used are the .15mm unless your lashes are strong enough to handle a heavier weight to get a more dramatic look, although we don't advise it.  We reccoment the volume lashes is you would like a more volumous dramatic look. The volume lashes can take 3.5 to 4 hours to apply and depends on if you get 2D, 3D, 4D, 5D or 6D the more dimensions you get the longer the process will take. With volume lashes you may get one every other week to keep them extra full and this appointment would take about 45 mins.  Most choose to do a fill once a month which takes about 1.5 hours.  You may wait 6 weeks in between a fill and this fill will take closer to 3 hours.

How long do the extensions last?

The lash extensions last according to your natural lash cycle as well as if you rub or play with your lashes, do hot yoga or swim often, wear mascara, or don't care for them properly. A normal lash cycle is about 45 to 60 days and you can loose about 3-5 of your own lashes per day.  This is without having eyelash extensions and is the normal shedding process of your eyelashes.) If you want to keep very full lashes at all times we recommend a weekly touch up, if you are ok with a few falling out then every two weeks and if you are ok will not as full then 3-4 weeks or sometimes clients can make it 6 weeks.  It all depends on how well you care for your lashes and where your lashes are in their natural growth cycle.  With volume lashes you don't need to get fills as often. If you would like they super full you can touch them up every other week other than that we recommend once a month or some clients can go 6 weeks before getting a fill. We recommend a lash serum to help the longevity of your lashes, it will also add a beautiful healthy shine.  A lash wash made specifically for lashes is recommend to wash them with daily.  If you don't have a lash wash use oil free soap and gently wash. Do not sleep with mascara on your lash extensions. You can wear mascara but we recommend using one that is formulated specifically for lash extensions to help prevent them from falling out or loosening the glue.

What can I expect at my appointment?

Your first appointment will be your longest appointment.  The lash expert will go over with you what kind of look you desire to have with your lashes and explain the different options in which you can choose from. There are different sizes, lengths, thickneses, colors, and materials like our premium silk or real mink or fox (all cruelty free). The lashist will also recommend what they think will be the best for you and your specific lashes.  You may also choose to add in some color, sparkles, or jewels. Once you have decided it's time to get comfortable and rest your head on a comfortable pillow and take a little nap in the quiet tranquility of the spa where you will listen to pleasant music and you are also welcome to conversate with your lashist if you would like. After about 2 hours (or possibly 4 if you are doing volume lashes) or so you will open your eyes and take a look at your beautiful transformation. If you were wanting and requesting a natural look not all of your lashes will have an extension on them so if you would like more than simply just ask your lashist to fill you in a bit more and she will happily do so.  They can always put on more, unless every lash is taken and then you will need to do volume lashes. We can only put one lash per one of your own lashes so if you naturally don't have many lashes you won't have as many extensions. So if you desire fuller step up to the volume lashes! You will be given a care baggie at the end of your first appointment this will include some instructions on how to care for your lashes as well as do's and don't s, as well as a small brush for your lashes. If you have any questions feel free to call anytime and we will be happy to anwer any questions

Can I wear mascara with my lash extensions?

We recommend not wearing mascara but if you chose to we recommend one of our mascaras since they are specially formulated for eyelash extensions. If you do use a different mascara DO NOT use waterproof mascara trying to get that mascara off your lashes will compromise the bond with the extension, and if you use a different mascara you will most likely loose more lashes sooner as well. Make sure that you wash your mascara off every night, you do not want to sleep with the mascara on because it is very bad to do to your lashes. It is best to use a wash that is specifically formulated for lash extensions, however, you can use a gentle oil free face wash. Wearing mascara can give your eyes that extra dramatic look which some choose to have it daily while other choose to have it on special occasions like weddings, or parties or a date night. Just apply very gently.

How do I care for my lash extensions?

We will give you directions to take with you home after your first appointment on how to care for your lashes.  You will also be given a lash brush to gently brush your lashes with daily.  We recommend that you wash your lashes daily especially if you wear eye make up.  You should use an oil free face wash or more preferably one of our specially formulated lash washes made just for lashes and can be used to wash your face with as well.  After you have washed your lashes gently brush through your lashes with the provided comb.  Avoid any oil based products such as make up that has oil or moisterizers with oil.  The Oils will affect the adhesive causing the extensions to fall out prematurely. We also sell sealants that will help keep your lashes healthy and shiny and help keep the bond of the glue.  We recommend this product if you do hot yoga or going on vacation somewhere hot or simply to just take better care of your lashes. You should apply this sealant right after getting your lashes put on or filled and then use a few times a week, 3-5 days. Its best not to wear mascara but if you choose to wear it sparingly and never wear waterproof mascara. Try to avoid sleeping on your face or side, or else you may want sleep mask. If you are a very active person you will want to rinse or wash your lashes more often, we also have a spray that you can carry with you in your purse that can help to keep your lashes clean, healthy and fresh.  Do not remove your lashes yourself it needs to be done by a professional.

What if I have sensitive eyes?

We have specialize glue for anyone with eye sensitivity or anyone with sensitivity to some of the products that are in lash glue.  We offer a organic all natural glue as well as one that is fumeless, latex free, paraben free ect. The sensitive glues don't hold a bond as well as the other glues we offer.  So you may loose your lashes a little sooner, but it all depends on how well you care for them.  This glue is also generally used on the lower lashes. Also some people mistake having a glue allergy when it could be the weight of the lashes.  If you had lashes on before and had any itchiness the cause may have been that the lash used was too heavy for your lashes or that the lashes weren't applied properly. Each lash needs to be isolated properly to ensure no lashes (other than one of your lashes and extension lash) are glued together. We are very careful to isolated the lashes and the lashists are very skilled at placement and making sure that the extension is on your lash and not your skin. It has to be placed in just the right spot not too close to the skin and not too high on the lash.  They are dealing with micro movements and placements as they work so it takes a very skilled lashist to do them correctly.
